Final Cut Version 2

This is our final cut and i feel that is has been improved so much and now looks more like the first opening 2 minutes of a film rather than a trailer like our old copy (Final cut version 1).

Logo

Below is my the logo of our production company. The logo suits its purpose because it is used on a black blank background and it has a blue tint effect. This signifys that we produce horror movies. We have used the enitials to create it S for Sam, W for Will, and J for Joe.

Evaluation

Overall i am very pleased with my final production and i feel that i have filled the purpose of it making sure it attracts the correct target audience and to make it look as professional as a real life production.

The ways my media product uses, develop or challenge forms of conventions of real media products by sticking to the horror aspect because our film opening shows the film gives a variety of sounds such as the heart beat noise, this will make the audience tense and have an irregular heart beat. We have also used a sound tack for the first part of the film (when the boy runs down the stairs). The sound also consists of the heart beat noise with deep notes to build tension and to signify something is going to happen. Below is the heart beat noise.

We challenge the real media horror productions by starting with a black blank screen with a police car siren which also provides narrative enigma and anchorage. We also challenge and develop the real media horror productions by going into a fast flowing opening shot of the character Jack running down the stairs; most horror films start with a slow opening shot, but our production gets straight to the point surprising the audience even more as we use camera angles such as close ups and extreme close ups and long shots also including the dutch angle, we used these shots because it shows venerability, isolation and that something is wrong.

One shot we did develop throughout the film was when we were pulling the camera back as if we were zooming out. The first time we achieved this was a disaster because the camera work was far too shaky, so we decided to use a skateboard as we didn't have the professional equipment. However using the skateboard made the shot look so much better from a visual aspect.
We also used camera angles such as high angles and low angles such as when the character Jack is running down the stairs it signifies someone is looking down on him (he is running away from someone).

We also challenge real horror media production openings by not having our credits at the end of the opening two minutes because the opening two minutes signify what the rest of the production (narrative) would be, also it provides anchorage because the audience may want to know what happens next. However our media production uses conventions of real horror productions by showing who the central protagonist is in the opening shot just like in the film Scream which is the victim who is being stork ed etc. Our media production is very different from other film openings as the first 28 seconds is a black blank screen with sounds (police car sirens, a tyre screech and a voice of a women telling the person to wake up along with a heart beat sound) so that it creates a narrative enigma and the audience wants to know what happens next.

However we have know changed this dew to the feedback, we have got two different shots which still fit with the sounds and it also makes the whole narrative of the film a lot clearer, so know there is no blank screen. Now the opening to our film gives the audience a clear view of the narrative it also is backed up by providing sufficient exposition, but does not necessarily take us beyond the equilibrium stage (which is an existing state of harmony). The shots we have added are the character Jack walking across the road (only showing his feet) and he stubble's as the sirens of the police car get closer and a tyre screech and then the screen goes blank so this means drama is created with this character which also shows that he is the central protagonist.

Towards the end of the film we have added some additional shots such as filming in a car using a point of view shot so the camera work is a little shaky in some respects, but this could be seen as a documentary style also the titles are black and white this is also used in documentaries, however we used it because most horror films use it to signify a low budget, but we decided to change to white font to a blue tint to signify a super natural effect just like in the film 'Scream' when there is use of blue tint on the house in the opening shot however it would be good to make the titles more sophisticated (make them more interesting). Also as each title appears on screen there is a noise of a heart beat (a pump) to create tension. We used a serif font which also signifies a horror with the sharpness of the lettering. Also at the end we decided to have a blank screen with titles and we thought it was boring (the feedback suggested this also) so we added some shots to create anchorage such as adding a shot of an ambulance and the journey to the hospital so the audience want to know what happens next. However as an alternative we could have put the titles on screen where the shots were filmed through the town and countryside.

My media product represents particular social groups such as the types of class like the upper middle class, lower middle class and working class (C1C2DE). my product achieves this by not having big star(s) in it or there names which is topical of a horror because the characters generally get killed of anyway. However i could argue that my production would appeal to the upper class and upper middle class (ABC1) because there's use of a counter type in it; the girl in the scary character and the boy Jack is the total opposite, he is scared, venerable and the victim. Also the type of social groups represented phychographic profile would be people who listen to heavy metal rock bands because this genre of music is associated with horror, also for people who listen to music such as heavy metal but i think that the stereotype of a goth could be related in this production as the long dark hair and black clothing could signify a Gothic style.

The kind of institution that might distribute my production would be somebody like Warp X or Film 4 because they are funded by the UK film council and also our film is set in Yorkshire so it would be another good way to distribute our film through these companies with the help of Screen Yorkshire. I would also advertise it at a premier to get audience feedback and to see if it's worth hitting the screes. I would also put it onto social networks such as YouTube to get feedback to find out what the target audience thinks. Our film could go straight to video production because the increasingly tough world of cinema as the correct funding required can not be given all the time. I could also distribute this film to Icon Movies as they are a UK film distributor and distribute a wide variety of films in terms of genre.

My audience for this film would be people aged 15 to 25 (youth) because the shots are fast and flowing and the transitions are extremely fast in various areas. Also the main characters which appear in my production are both aged 17 years old and also the main setting is in a school so the audience would feel comfortable with the setting as most people today have had some sort of education, weather it's University or Secondary School or even College. The audience for the ethnicity aspect would be that although all the characters in the production are Caucasian, it doesn't mean that it doesn't appeal to other ethnic cultures, however if we did add some other characters who have a different ethnic backgrounds we would draw in a larger target audience.

The gender for this production looks towards targeting male and female audiences as males generally like horror films as they are mainly male-oriented, but it also appeals to females because the girl in the production is the scary character and it's unusual for this to happen in a horror movie. The target audience for my film also represents sexuality as the pink pound is drawn in because the male character Jack is the scared one which is a counter type because the main stereotype for a male is to be the dominant one and to be the hero etc. Also the class status is involved in my audience because it would mainly appeal to the C1C2DE classes because there are no big stars in the production and its not a sophisticated text although i could argue it could be for ABC1 classes as there is the use of a counter type which could make the complex of the film challenging.

The things which i have learnt about the new technologies from the process of constructing my production would be things such as using the software and hardware. I have learnt many things about the software we used which was imovie 06 which i have hardly used. The things which i learnt were things such as using editing techniques like when we added our production logo, you have to take an effect called the 'Ken Burns Effect' which allows you to re size the image to the appropriate size. I have also learnt how to insert music and get the timing correct to match up with the clips and how to lower the audio volume or higher it or to even make it fade in and out. There are some disadvantages of the software though because it is quite basic as threes not a lot of audio and visual effects to choose from (it's not professional enough).

I have learnt quite a few things using the hardware but not as much as the software. However the things which i have learnt are things such as how to alter the white balance on the camcorders so that each clip looks as if it has the same lighting effect and there are no flairs of light. Also we used a tripod which i have never used before, but i can now see why they are so useful as they make each camera shot so much smoother when using a panning or tracking shot (the camera work is not shaky).
If we had a large budget to produce our film it would have been good to have used a stedi cam for the point of view shot because at some points in the shot the camera work was very shaky but there's nothing what we could do about it. Also when we filmed the high angle shot looking down on the stairs when the character Jack was running down the stairs it would have been quite good if we had a chance to use a miniature crane. However these aspects come at a high cost, some of the camera's are worth hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Looking back at my preliminary task and know looking at my final production i can say that i have learnt lots. First of all i can say that my prelim task doesn't look professional at all compared to my final production. I think i have achieved this by using different shot types, but also using them in an effective and use full way such as using the zooming in of the character Jack and then zooming out to make it look like a continuous shot but in different locations. I have also learnt that each cut visually looks more professional because in the prelim task we included jump cuts (which were unintentional)when using the match on action shot. You can see this below when the boy holds onto the door handle pulling it down and in the next shot the door doesn't open after a few second so the timing was completely wrong, but know this has made me realise how to get the timing perfect.

One main part that i can say i have learnt is that now i know how to use specific editing techniques in imovie such as using music and sound works throughout the production really well as it helps to signify your genre and attract your target audience.

Software

•The software i used to produce the film is called imovie 06.

The advantages of using the software:

The advantages of using the specific piece of software are that there is no limit on the amount of clips you are allowed to add. Also it is easy to use such as when you have all your clips uploaded from your camcorder you just drag and drop each clip at the bottom of the page and put it into your own order. Also it is very easy to add specific effects, audio and visual as you have a menu on the right of the page and you just choose any option and apply it to your movie or specific clip.

The disadvantages of using the software:

The disadvantages of using this software are things such as when you want to reduce the size of the clip or cut it there are several different ways to do it, this also goes for when you are adding your own music from garage band etc. Also there are lots of different aspects to choose from and there are lots of different menus to choose from so it is quite complicated.

My stengths and weaknesses using the software:

My strengths using the software is that i can order my clips and provide a basic story by using simple editing techniques such as cutting the text and making the timing correct through out all of the clips. I also find it very easy to apply visual and audio effects. However my weaknesses are that i need to use more complex effects using sounds from garage band and also when i come to edit each clip sometimes i cant get to grips with making the credits look professional instead of just using a black background with white text.

To over come my weaknesses i used the tutorials on the apple website. They are video tutorials and take you through each step.

As you can see on the picture above there are different options on the left (bullet point arrows) which give detailed stages on what you want to learn.

Micro Drama

• In my micro drama we used part of a narrative theory from a person called Vladimir Propp using the 7 different character types:

1) The villain
2) The donor
3) The (magical) helper
4) The princess and her father
5) The dispatcher
6) The hero or victim/seeker hero
7) False hero

What Happened: In my micro drama we didn't use all 7 different character types but we did use 4 of them. Firstly we used the VILLAIN character type who beats up the VICTIM and takes his phone, then you see the VILLAIN get into a fight with the HERO who eventually gets the phone back to give back to the VICTIM. Finally the VILLAIN gets back up and runs towards the HERO with a weapon, but suddenly a boy comes out of know where and kicks the weapon out of the VILLA N's hand so overall he is the FALSE HERO.

What i learnt: From my micro drama i have learnt how the use of the different character types makes a big impression on your film because it gives a wide range of characters and they all link in some way or another and they make a great storyline which makes it easy to follow. Producing this micro drama i have also learnt the basic skills on how to edit on the software we used which was "imovie 06". However since producing it i realise that the editing was not very good because it was the first time i had done any kind of editing and i didn't have a clue how to use the software.

Above there is a picture of Darth Vader and Luke Sky walker; you can immediately tell which on is the VILLAIN and which one is the VICTIM/HERO. Propps narrative theory also shows how you can identify the characters by there appearance.

Other Research-COMA

•I have found that there is already a film called Coma, in-fact there are quiet a few as you can see below.

1) Coma, directed Michael Crichton in 1978 (thriller/mystery)
2) Coma (TV), directed by Paula van der Oest in 1994
3) Coma, directed by Arash Moirian in 2004 (comedy/drama)
4) Coma, directed by Liz Garbus in 2007/1 (documentary/reality TV)
5) Coma, directed by Anil Baral in 1998 (short)
6) Coma, directed by Stuart Charles in 2005 (short)
7) Coma, directed by Maria Beatty in 2007/2 (short/fantasy)
8) Coma, directed by Luis Felipe Hernandez Alanis in 2006 (short/animation)

The film which stands out the most is the first one which was produced in 1987 and is one of the only few which is an English production and it also has some inter textual reference with my film because the narrative is very similar.
The narrative of this film is about a young woman doctor who notices something sinister going on in her hospital and healthy patients are having 'complications' during operations and ending up in comas. The patients are then shipped off to an institute that looks after them. The young doctor suspects there is more to the story.
This film is just like my group idea (final production) because it contains the same short of genre and also has the same type of narrative as it is all based around some one or people in coma/s. So my film has the inter textual reference with this film.

All of this information and research came from- http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&q=coma&x=0&y=0

Genre Research

HORROR GENRE

Useful Resources:

• http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horror_film - This gives history on the type of genre and what is contained in it.

• http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_horror_films - This gives a list
of films from each decades and years etc.

• http://www.filmsite.org/horrorfilms.html - This gives a list of horror films with there history and explanation on what they contain.
Horror Films are unsettling films to make us frightened and panic and to reveal our worst fears, often in a shocking and surprising way. Horror films make us feel vunerable and make us feel isolated (on our own) and bring up past events.
'The earliest horror films were Gothic in style - meaning that they were usually set in spooky old mansions, castles, or fog-shrouded, dark and shadowy locales'. The main type of characters do not generally come across as normal human beings, they are either known as serial killers or even the supernatural types like aliens and monsters.

Research from www.play.com:

• http://www.play.com/Books/Books/4-/5237134/A-Thing-of-Unspeakable-Horror/Product.html - A Thing of Unspeakable Horror: The History of Hammer Films by Sinclair McKay (New & Used: £3.34)

Hammer Films was known for producing Gothic horror films 'from 1934 until 1979', with films such as "The Curse of Frankenstein." The film company was also known for creating big stars in the industry. It is about the production company and how the horror films don't need to have big stars as the characters are always killed off.

This book gives a brief history of horror films and what they all have in common and looking at particular features which are used over and over again up until today.

• http://www.play.com/Books/Books/4-/651167/The-Rough-Guide-to-Horror-Movies/Product.html - The Rough Guide To Horror Movies by Alan Jones (New & Used: £7.46)

This book looks at the worlds most terrifying movies. 'It shows the classic films such as "Frankenstein" and "Nightmare On Elm Street"(Freddie Kruger)'. The book gives details on what scares us behind the movies in real life situations and looks at all the types of horrors throughout the 20th century. It also gives details on past horror films such as "The Exorcist" and "Psycho".

This book looks at the early American horror films in the 1950s such as Dracula etc. This book gives a good sense of the genre looking at Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 film "Psycho" which was the film which made the horror films today.

• http://www.play.com/Books/Books/4-/1892374/On-Writing-Horror/Product.html - On Writing Horror: A Handbook by The Horror Writers of America (New & Used: £8.24)

This book basically gives specific instructions on how authors write and sell horror.

Halloween(1978, John Carpenter):

• The film opens with a blank black screen which could signify a low budget film.
• The music starts first before anything like the production company and title etc to aware the viewers.
• The music makes the audiences heart beat irregular with fast high pitched notes and suddenly dropping down to a deep loud droning note.
• As the title come on screen there is a slight zooming in towards the pumpkin.
• The font of the title sequence (directors, producers and actors etc)is a serif font with the sharp edges. The colour of the font is red and orange and changes just like when the pumpkin flickers from a dark red to a bright orange.
• Then there is one small title sequence which has a black background with white text which could show a documentary style (with shaky camera work).
• The opening of the film is a long shot of a house were a blue tint lighting effect is used which could signify supernatural. The colour could also represent the genre of the film because the main weapon used in a horror film is a knife and the blade has a blue tint to it.
• The house is a detached house and is used in this film as it shows vunerability and isolation (the house is on its own).
• This film has a sheriff or cop in it. This is one main feature which is used in horror films because they always get killed (they feel as though they are the can solve anything and that they are in charge).
• Not in this film but in many other horror films there are specific stereotypes such as a busty blonde (sexual appeal) always gets killed. This is used in other films like Scream and Psycho.

History and use full informational facts on Halloween:

• There are no big star names in this horror film but this goes for most of them because the characters are generally killed anyway so there would be no point in paying lots of money for famous stars.
• The well known actor in Halloween is called Donald Pleasant helped promote the movie.
• Famous Quote 'Halloween is the gun of the wind of horror movie (from producer).
• It was the most profitable horror movie of all time.
• The same names are used in horror movies:Dr Loomis (Halloween), Sam Loomis (Psycho) and Billy Loomis (Scream.
• Halloween contains part of the auteur theory because the director John Carpenter takes care of everything involved in the film.
• One of the main characters in Halloween Jamie Lee Curtis was the daughter of the main character in Psycho so Halloween achieved lots of promotion for the movie.
Horrors are mainly aimed at the youth male audience because the type of music used in horror movie is heavy metal which attracts a male audience. However it does also appeal to the female audience because the main characters are females.

Horror Features (LEGACY OF BLOOD, Jim Harper):

•Usually its the female characters who get killed. Threes usually more than one female character, for example in Halloween Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is a vunerable character who doesn't show a sexual appeal, but her friends are the total opposite as they are the busty blonde stereotypes so this is binary opposition.

•Most horror films have females as the main protagonist and one of there fathers is related to the police. This is used in Halloween and Nightmare On Elm Street because Nancy Thompson's farther is a detective. The police character always dies as they try to be the hero but always fail because horror films are mainly targeted at a youth audience no an older aged target audience.

•Horror films are all about the scary character which is usually addressed as a human serial killer in films like Psycho and Halloween. However sometimes monster and aliens are used as a scary character like in the film Jeepers Creepers or you can have horror films with the supernatural character like aliens etc.

•The horror films with the human killers usually were a mask to cover the face such as in Scream or Halloween. Masks usual signify the scary character who is evil which can relate to one of Propps character types.

•"The Ring" plays a big role in my genre research because my film has great comparisons and lots of inter textual reference.
The film uses a female as a scary character and looks like a goth because she has long jet black hair which covers her face . She only moves when she is 'out to get someone or something, when the video tape is played and only screams and shouts but doesn't say anything at all. Whenever a victim plays the video tape the phone will ring telling them they only have one week to live.

Feedback

•We have asked for feedback for our rough cut and asked people who we would say the target audience is (the youth aged 15 to 25). We found this target audience by asking our class mates and also we posted our rough cut onto the social network face book.

Below is the feedback:

-Several thought that the shot where the camera is pulled back from the boys face (Jack Loomis) in the hall is too shaky.

-We used a close up of the boy outside and then the shot cut to the close up in the sports hall. The feedback we got from a few people was that the lighting changed dramatically from light to dark and dint fit at all.

-When we film the shots of the girl in the chair getting closer and closer to the camera moving from left to right, some people noticed that the camera moved half way through the sequence so the shots were not consistent as they needed to be shot from the exact same spot (all of them).

-When the character Jack Loomis walks through the door of the stair case and the shot cuts to the character outside the door looking around. The feedback we got from this part of the film was that the shot cutted too fast from the point of view shot to the shot where Jack is outside looking around. The said that we should film Jack coming through the door itself.

-(Laura aged 17) thought that the intertextual reference with the ring was very clear and worked very well.

-(Chris Morrow aged 17) thought that it was clear that the character Jack Loomis was the scared one (victim).

-Everyone recognised that our film was clear that the type of genre was a horror.

-The music which was produced on logic pro 8 for our credits at the end of the film had some negative feedback. People thought that is sounded like it was a copy from Halloween (which can be listened to on the music and sounds page)with a few different cords.

-Several people who have listened to our music recognised that our film was a horror.

-A group of people aged in the target audience thought that there was too much of a blank screen, but the use of music was very good and they were able to recognise the genre.

Rough Cut

This is our rough cut version of the final cut. We have contained all the clips we want in our final cut,but we are going to re-film so of the clips because we got some feed back and there were various things wrong with some clips, such as one clip had too much shaky camera work. However we didn't add any special sound effects or even any audio effects, but the only thing we have done is cut the clips and put them in an order so the clip makes sense and fits the purpose of our final idea.

You can see clips which we have edited (the before and after shots) on the editing and cinematography page.

Group Scenario and Final Synopsis

Final Idea:

•The name of the film is C.O.M.A because the first two minutes are about the boy in a coma, but the first 2 opening minutes are a dream.

-First there is the character walking across a road only viewing his feet and he stubble's backwards with the sound of a police car and a tyre screech to signify a car has crashed, then there will be a deep heart beat noise and a person starts shouting 'Loomis, Loomis, Loomis wake up' The voice will be on a blank black screen.
-Then suddenly a boy barges out of a corridor door and then starts running down the flight of stairs. (Between each floor when the boy starts running down the stairs titles appear in shot)
-A point of view shot when going through the door from the staircase on the bottom floor (the boy).
-The boy runs out of the door gazing around using a close up of the boys face to show the exspressional features of his face.
-The camera will zoom out and the camera and it will be in a whole new setting and environment.(In the sports hall). The camera will not zoom out it will be the camera man who pulls the camera back.
-The boy is standing in the big hall, using a long shot of boy in the distance.
-A close up of the boys face with confused facial expressions.180 degree rule used.
-A reverse shot to the other side of hall, using a long shot with a girl sat down in a chair, with her head down (her hair covers her face).180 degree rule used.
-The boy is frightened and has a worried look on his face. (close up and a dutch angle).180 degree rule used.
-The girl in the chair gets close to the camera going from right to left (Up towards the camera) in several short cuts.180 degree rule used.
-A close up of the boy with a scared look on his face.
-The boys hand reaches out towards the girl, using a mid shot,as his hand comes across the screen.
-A close up of the girl sat in the chair and she suddenly jumps out of the chair screaming.
-The screen gos blank and black.
-There is then a shot of the character Jack laid on the ground which signifies that he has been knocked down.
-Then there's images of a town and some countryside (which is used as a journey in a car) and then the last shot is the hospital and an ambulance to signify that the journey was in an ambulance.
-The narrative would be that the the boy Jack gets hit by a car and falls into a coma and starts to have a weird scary dream about the girl. When he eventually comes out of the coma and moves schools and the girl starts to haunt when e s at school.

•Characters
-Jack Loomis (boy)is a Caucasian teenager aged 17 years old.
-The girl is anonymous, however she is Caucasian also 17 years of age.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Age- The target audience would be for the youth aged 15 to 25 because the characters are teenagers themselves and the environment it is set in would be recognisable to the youth as most go to school or have some kind of education. The national BBFC rating for this film would be a 15 because my film will contain 'strong horror and disturbing images'.

Ethnicity- The film is for any ethnic group or raise as it only has Caucasian characters, but if we were to use a mixture of raises in our film it would have a larger target audience so there would be a multi-ethnic audience.

Gender- The type of gender for this film would come across as it was more for the male audience, but we don't want to exclude the females. This may also appeal to females because the scary character in the film is a female and that is very unusual as well as the male has the role which is the total opposite.

Socio-Economic Grouping- The type of class for this film would target a C1C2DE audience (upper-middle class, lower-middle class and working-class) because horrors often use middle-class characters, not big star names because they are going to get killed off at some point throughout the film. My film could also attract the AB's which is the upper-class because my film contains a counter type as the scary character is a female which is unusual so the text could be seen as sophisticated.

Nationality/Region- This film doesn't have hardly anyone speaking in it except at the beginning as a voice appears on a black blank screen. The content comes from a northern English female and this can be recognised easily from her accent. This will influence the distributor because usually the southern English accent is used in English films such as 'Hu Grant' in "Bridget Jones Diary" which is a Working Title production. This film would tap into a UK-wide audience because we relate the northern English people as the working class (farmers etc) and it would come across as more of a social realist text again because of the northern accent. However it would be very hard for my film to make the foreign sales because there are no big star names used at all.

Sexuality- We are using a counter type in the film, because the female is the scary character and the male is the victim. This could draw in the pink pound because the general stereotype for a male is to be strong and dominant, but in this case the male is the scared victim (the total opposite).

Fans Of- I would expect my potential audience to be a fans of other horror films as they appeal to a youth audience and to both males and females. If i was to design a promotional poster which i would try and make reference's to other films to communicate my idea. The types of films i would make reference's to would be "The Ring" because my film has lots of inter textual reference with it. I would also possibly mention "Halloween" as it is one of the greatest horror films of all time and i have used the name "Loomis" which is also used in "Scream and "Psycho".

Psycho graphic Profile- I think the type of people who would watch my film would also be interested in heavy metal rock bands such as "Deep Purple" because this genre of music also has a great contrast with the genre of my film (horror) and would possibly watch TV series such as "Star Trek" because of the supernatural aspect. "The Ring" had a box office hit in the UK making £2,200,084 on 369 screens and in the USA it made $15,015,393 on 1,981 screens. So i would feel confident that my film would achieve a good box office (inter textual reference).

Sound and Music

Below are 5 copyright free websites for music and sound. There is a differece between copyright free and royaliy free in one main important way which is that royalty free is when you can download music or sounds for free but it doesnt mean that its copyright free:

1)http://www.neosounds.com/ This is the first copyright free website from neo sounds. They provide different sounds for different types of genres, they have a link for the type of genres and it brings up a list of different CF sounds. There are a few other different categories to choose from such as the moods and emotions section where you can find sounds like lazy, light or brave sounds etc. Another category is that you can choose the sounds of diiferent instruments like bells etc. Lastly you can choose different music styles such as different dacades like the 60s, even theme music such as christmas.

2)http://www.soundzabound.com/index.php This is a website which is copyright free for mostly music, no other sound effects. you can choose the music from a different category as it gives an A-Z listing of what type or genre of music you are looking for (classical, dance etc). You can also choose what length the music comes in as it provides 15 seconds, 30 seconds, a minute or full length. You can download them onto itunes or windows media player.

3)http://www.emyr.info/fxtracks.html This website is copyright free for sounds only. There are only seven types of sub-headings to choose from. Garage Band/Logic Pro 8:

We are going to use garage band or logic pro 8 music and sounds within the film production. We are going to use sounds from the keyboard such as high pitched notes to create tension and make the audience have an irregular heart beat (supprise), this is used in "Halloween" repetitively. We are also going to use deep notes to make the audience feel as there is a build up of something waiting to happen.

Below is the first peice of music which we have used at the begining, the music contains the noise of a heart beat so it carries on from the heart beat noise on the black blank screen. The music is slow using deep notes to make the audience feel wiery as something is about to happen.

Below is the sound which we have used for the rest of the film up until the credits. It is a continous light heart beat sound to continue the effect and make the audience feel tense and to make them have an irregular heart beat.

Below is a peice of music we were going to use but we have know rejected it and you can listen to the new one below the origional idea.

Sounds from imovie:

We are also using sounds from imovie to create the tension and to give the audience a good idea on what is happening. We have used sounds such as police car sirens and a tyre screech to begin the film. We have also used a heart beating noise to signify after the police car sirens and tyre screech someone is hurt and has become unconscious. We have used a deep drum sound (like a bang) we the girl gets closer and closer to the camera to shock the audience as they will not expect such a loud sound. We also used a soud which we have used when the girl gets closer and closer to the screen from left to right. However we only used the sound when the girl is the closest to the camera. We used the thunder roll sound because it shocks the audience and gain there attention.

Ambient Noise:

We didnt have any problems with ambient noise as we are adding lots of sounds from imovie and mostly from garage band. However if we did have any problems you can use a tool in imovie to weaken the ambient background noises or we could have used a boom mike to replace the camcorders microphone.

However there is one point in our opening film where we record a voice so we can put it over our titles on a blank screen at the begining. The voice is shouting over the continous heart beat noise, but the heart beat was a seperate effect from imovie, but we still had to record the voice even though we had no ambient noise problems.

Cinematography and Editing

•To get to the final cut lots of editing has taken place as we have looked at each shot we have filmed and edited it so it fits its purpose, even sometimes we have rejected a clip and refilmed it.

-The clip below shows one of the shots we re-filmed (decided by the feedback). We re-filmed this shot because the camera work is far to shakey, so we used a skateboard to solve this problem and know the camera work is smooth and the clip is much clearer to watch.

-This clip below also shows one of the shots we re-filmed (decided by the feedback). We re-filmed this shot because the camera didnt stay on the same spot when the girl was getting closer and closer (from right to left) towards the camera and also the "After Clip" has more shots moving from left to right. Know the shot looks more proffesional and more realistic.

-The clip below shows one of the shots we re-filmed (decided by the feedback). We re-filmed this show because the camera zoomed in too much on the boys face and we got the angle of his face completley wrong as well (his eyes were looking in the wrong direction). Now this shots looks accurate and fits the film really well.

Editing and Shot types:

-We decided to use a high angle shot when filming the character Jack running down the stairs becuase this way we could show the the character running down each flight of stairs and it shows that he is running away from something (someone is looking down on him). We didnt use the 360 degree turn because we didnt have the corrrect profesional equipment.

-We cut the clip where Jack Loomis is running down the stairs so it would fit the timing exactly to the next clip which is a point of veiw shot when he is running down the last set of stairs towards the door. We used a point of veiw shot so the audience can feel the sense that the character is worried and confused and also the heavy breathing is emphasized in this shot as the character is very close to the camera when filming the clip.

-We also cut the cip where Jack is loooking around (confused) when he is in the sports hall. We cut the clip exactly when he notices the girl infront of him. We did this so the facial expression is empasized and sygnifys that something is wrong, this is also why we used a medium shot and also it creates anchorage for the audience because they want to know what he is looking at.

-For the first shot of the girl in the chair we used a long shot in such a large area of space to sygnify isolation and vunerability. We cut this clip so that the clip is very short and fast (like a flash) so it creates tension and suprises the audience.

-The clip we re-filmed when the girl in the chair gets closer and closer to the camera (from left to right) as shown above. For each shot when the girl moves from left to right we cut them so each of them are very fast only abot 4 seconds long each so it effects the audience as they will feel as though the girl is in there face and it will build up lots of tesion (a long shot to a close up).

-We used a dutch angle shot when filming the character Jack when he has a confused/worried facial expression to show something is wrong.

-At the begining and end of the film we have produced we have decided to add a black blank screen where we are going to add white text to show and signify the film is a low budget production.

-We added audio effects at the begining of the blank screens such as a police car siren and a tyre screech which provides narrative enigma because the audience want to know what happens as this is a way of creating drama.

-We have also have added flashes of the girl during the begining of the blank screens to create tension and we also added an earthquake effect of the flashes to make the audience jump with an irregular heart beat. -We have added an effect to the part where the camera pulls back (zooming out). The effect we applied is a fast forward motion effect so the shot is speeded up. We used this effect so it would fit into our target audience category because the shots are quick and fast.

-We also added a sound to each cut of when the girl moves closer and closer to the camera from left to right. The sound is deep drum note (like a bang) to emphasize the girl gets closer to the camera in different stages. It also shocks the veiwer as they dont expect it at all. -We used the 180 degree rule in our film so it emphasizes the reactions on the characters face and we get a good idea of the type of steriotypes etc.

Music (we added this music by importing it into imovie):
-We have added some music in different parts to the film. Firstly we added some music from the start when the boy bursts out of the door and down the stairs until when the camera is pullled back in the sports hall. The music contains the noise of a heart beat so it carries on from the heart beat noise on the black blank screen.

-We have added music at the end of the film where the credits appear. The music is very much like the sound track for Hallowene, but we added different cords. However looking at our feedback we have decided to make another sound tarck for the credits at the end. You can listen to these on the music and sound page.

-We have also added a sound or music track all the way through the rest of the film. It is a very quiet sound of a heart beating to carry on the effect and make the audience feel tense. You can listen to these it the music and sound page.

-We have also added a sound to the movement of the girl when she gets closer to the screen from left to right. The sound appearswhen she is at the closest poin to the camera. You can listen to it on the music and sound page.

•We have added Two extra shots at the begining and six short shots at the end.

-At the begining we added a shot of the characters feet (Jack) walking across the road to create a narrative enigma as you cannot see his face, then we filmed his feet changing direction as he stubbles which is in time when theres the sound of the police car sirens and just before the tyre screech to signify he is going to be hit by a car or vehicle etc.

-Towards the end of the opening two minutes we have added six short clips which are as follow, just after the girl screams and jumps towards the camera we have added a shot of the boy laying down on the ground, this is the part where he is in his coma, but we dont see all of it we see him laying in the road, it creates exsposition. Then after this we have filmed shots of a town and countryside which then leads outside of a hospital where a shot of the hospital is taken with a shot of an ambulance to signify the journey through the town and countryside was on the way to the hospital. This also creates anchorage as the audience want to know what happens to the character Jack (central protagonist).

-Instead of having white writting as the titles on a black backgroung we have chosen a light blue tint. The blue tint method is used in lots of different horror films to create the supernatural effect such as the opening shot of the house in 'Scream'. We have also used a heart beat noise (a pump) as soon as each title appears on screen at the begining when we see Jack walking across the road to build up tension making the audience think something is going to happen like a murder etc because of the heart beat noise.
